Self-Employed Rowing Coach

Women’s Squad 

 

Summary:

We are looking for a Rowing coach to work with our fun, dynamic, growing (circa 60) women’s squad. Our competitive squad has come leaps and bounds over the last couple of years and we are looking for someone to take the competitive programme to the next level while also maintaining the development of the wider squad. Our goal is enjoyment of the sport for all our members and we promote an ethos of flexibility of commitment knowing that our members are all at different life stages.  Part-time hours with flexibility will be required.

Role:

  • To coach sculling and sweep rowing technique on and off the water across a range of groups, from beginners (as part of a learn to row) to experienced rowers.
  • To set and run land-training sessions. 
  • Lead the senior squad rowers to the next level of competitive performance. Potential for a Henley campaign.
  • Guide the development squad coaches (volunteer members) with the development squad programme and coach the development squad when they join the wider squad sessions. The development squad consists of rowers who come through the Learn to Row programme once a year. 
  • To work with the Women’s Captain to plan outings, training sessions and line-ups.
  • To drive coaching/safety launches 
  • To attend training camps and other training events (expenses covered)
  • Work with the Director of Rowing and Women’s Captain on a programme and execute it

Experience/ Skills:

  • Experience creating and delivering a competitive rowing programme
  • Experience teaching rowers from scratch 
  • Level 2 British Rowing Qualification would be beneficial
  • RYA Powerboat level 2 Driving Qualification would be beneficial
  • First Aid would be beneficial
  • Possess good judgment and sound knowledge of the river Thames would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of boat rigging would be beneficial 

Hours:

Typically, 3 sessions a week: 2 sessions on a Saturday Morning and a combination of 1 session on Sunday Morning or 1 session on a Monday or Wednesday evening

Starting

September 2019 and ideally available in August for handover with current coach

  • Access to rowing boats outside of coaching hours
